From Daily Foil Shaving to Complete Realism: His Norwood 7 Story

When this client first got in touch, he was dealing with full Norwood 7 baldness across the top and balding crown. He’s a sporty, athletic guy in his early 40s who loves playing football and hitting the gym regularly. Because he hated the look of a receded hairline and thinning hair, he kept things neat by shaving his head down to the skin every 1 to 2 days with an electric foil shaver.

When he started looking into shaved look scalp micropigmentation, he straight away wanted the most natural hairline look possible. How Redness Behaves Across 3 SMP Sessions

As you can see from his step-by-step progress image, after just one session the lighter shade of SMP pretty much matched his clean shave. However, I needed to blend it in better into the sides (fading it down) in order to create a seamless transition between his remaining hair and the bald top.

There is an interesting clinical detail to note here: from session to session, scalp redness is always most visible on the 1st session when working on completely “clean,” unworked skin. As the skin gets “filled in” with micropigmentation impressions across sessions 2 and 3, the skin becomes far less reactive, and the temporary redness straight after each session becomes less and less visible. Once the initial flush disappears, the result settles into pure stubble simulation.

Because there is no bleeding, scabbing, or open wounds, recovery was smooth and easy. He was back to doing light non-sweaty activities straight away and returned to regular football training after just a few days.

Mapping a Feathered Hairline for Fair Skin Tone

On fair caucasian skin, drawing a harsh or low hairline is a recipe for an unnatural look. During our hairline drawing phase, we marked a natural frontal boundary using golden ratio measurements, roughly 4 finger-widths above his brow line where his forehead muscles naturally rest.

Instead of drawing a sharp line, I placed smaller micro-dots along the leading edge and feathered them back toward his crown. The real key for a Norwood 7 bald head is the side fade: by fading the micropigmentation impressions down into his side hair, we created a seamless gradient that looks completely natural under bright lights or outdoor sun. Sterile Studio Hygiene & Custom Light Shade Blending

Hygiene is central to everything I do at ScalpMates. Every piece of equipment touched during treatment is disinfected, and every client watches me unseal a brand-new, sterile 0.22mm 3RL needle cartridge and pour ink into a fresh cup while wearing fresh nitrile gloves. Because SMP is a 2D pigment impression and real side hair grows in 3D, keeping side stubble under 0.5mm prevents texture contrast. Since this client already shaved with a foil shaver every 1 to 2 days, maintaining his new hairline took zero extra effort. Running a foil shaver over his scalp for 3 minutes every morning keeps the 2D pigment dots perfectly aligned with his natural side stubble.

There are no upfront contracts, debt traps, or pushy sales reps. You simply pay after each session. I don’t offer cash or student discounts to keep things fair for every client, but I do pay a 10% commission on every session paid by a friend you refer. Under my Price Promise Guarantee, touch-ups right after 3 sessions or within year one are completely free. Future top-ups down the line (usually every 2 to 4 years) only cost up to an initial single session price (£400) if a full overhaul is needed, or considerably less for a quick touch-up.
